München and Medicine. Preliminary Studies on the Medical School’s History of Science, 1826–2026

In its almost 200 year-long history, numerous important scientists and physicians were members of the Medical School of Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich. Based in Munich, Max von Pettenkofer, Emil Kraepelin or Ferdinand Sauberbruch influenced medicine in its scientific, clinical and social dimension. The research project examines the relationship between the Medical School and medicine during last two centuries: In what way did the institutional, personal, and scientific processes at the Medical School reflect the development or medicine, generate this development or was shaped by it? The project lays the foundation to determine the relation between Munich and medicine in its longue durée, by identifying and accumulating material and creating a pedigree of the Medical School, its institutions and personnel, since 1826.
