Development and evaluation of a blended learning seminar "Methods of qualitative social research in public health and medicine"

As part of Lehre@LMU, a program to improve the quality of teaching and study at the LMU, the Center for Leadership and People Management offers project funding within a Multiplicator Programme. The Institute of Ethics, History and Theory of Medicine, in cooperation with the Department for Qualitative Methods of Empirical Social Research at the Institute for Sociology and the Institute for Medical Information Processing, Biometry, and Epidemiology is participating in this program by developing a blended learning seminar for qualitative methods training and its evaluation.
Qualitative research methods are widely used in public health and medicine. Since 2016 they have been part of the methodological training in the Master's programme Public Health (MSc) at the Medical Faculty of LMU Munich. In the course of this project, the range of courses will be extended by blended learning components and evaluated. The extension of the seminar to include online teaching will create sustainable resources for teaching the basics from which other groups. Medical students who want to work with qualitative research methods in their doctoral thesis can also benefit. The evaluation entails plural methods. The results will be published and incorporated into further activities.
